Central Line - Epping to Ongar for BVE4

Latest News & Updates

The Ongar branch was opened in 1865 by the Eastern Counties Railway and was taken over and operated by the Central Line from 1947. Due to decline in passengers over the years, the line was closed on the 30th September 1994. This rusty rural branch line is single tracked all the way and runs through the heart of the Essex countryside. Using Driver eye view videos, aerial mapping and other resources, I have faithfully and accurately recreated the full six miles of the line for BVE 4, as it was in its final LU era (circa 1992-1994). Following a ten years closure, the line has recently been reopened by Epping Ongar Railway (EOR) as a preserved railway ran entirely by volunteers. To visit the line in real life, please visit the Epping Ongar Railway website here for more information.

The route is written by Kelvin Liu.

The latest version, v1, consists of the following features:

  • Five diagrams- all set in the summer and during peak hours. Clear, Rainy and Stormy runs included.
  • Accurate scenery with many purpose built objects.
  • Traction motor cutout at power rail gaps.
  • Photorealistic rails, objects, sky and clouds.
  • Realistic countryside ambience and sound effects.
The next version, v1.1, will consists of more diagrams (including a unique Last train ever scenario) and possibly a few scenery tweaks. Version 1.1 will be made when time permits.

Route Overview

This route is a complete rewrite of Chris Rogers' original route that was for BVE 2. The route was built from scratch new codes and objects. Due to very light usage, trains only operated the line during peak hours. For this driving simulator, you will take the 16:27 first evening peak service from Epping to Ongar calling at North Weald and Ongar. There are five diagrams to choose from, depicting different weather conditions. The route is very accurately constructed using many custom built objects and utilizes many  BVE 4 features such as changes in brightness level when going under a bridge and power cut outs when passing through a rail gap. The branch is actually ran by a 3-car 1960 Cravens tube stock manufactured by “Cravens Railway Carriage and Wagon Company LTD” in Sheffield, but since there isn’t such train available for BVE 4 and I do not have the resources to make one, this route will use the 1938 tube stock which is similar to the 1960 stock. OK, enough said, please download it now!

Oh, and please read the PDF document called “Line info. and Driver's guide” found in the route folder before driving.

Downloads

You will need to download the LT1938 stock and a sound patch in order to run this route. The sound patch provides the train with an authentic jointed track run sound- which was recorded on the Ongar branch itself. Without this patch, you will not be able to hear the clikerty clack sound.

The following traction is required for the Epping to Ongar route. Please note that none of the trains listed below are productions of BRT. Please thank the authors of the traction separately.
